Jan Banning 'Bureaucratics': The Universality of Bureaucracy

Jan Bannings is a Dutch artist/photographer. In his project "Bureaucratics," he has taken pictures profiling bureaucrats/civil servants in their workplace in eight countries (Bolivia, China, France, India, Liberia, Russia, the USA and Yemen). The pictures showcase in a candid way how much the universality of basic principles of bureaucratic organizing. . From well-adorned work places to down-to-basic ones, there are some interesting constants: the ethos represented in the attire and overall demeanour of these workers, the formal records sounding them, and the 'bureau' which they populate making concrete the idea of 'office.'
