PDW Classics of
Organization and Management Theory

Picture
Starting in 2018 I have organized a workshop at the Academy of Management (AOM) annual conference about classics in organization and management theory. The goal of the event is to spark reflections on the relevance of earlier scholarship for current academic work.

2021 PDW: (Forgotten) Women of Organizational Scholarship

The third edition explored the foundational work of female scholars to the field of organization and management theory. It featured presentations by Marta Calás on Edith Penrose; Lisa Cohen on Rosabeth Moss Kanter; Martha Feldman on Susan Leigh Star; Maja Korica on Rosemary Stewart; Maria José Tonelli on Isabel Menzies Lyth; and Emmanuelle Vaast on Jean Lave.

2019 PDW: The Contingency Approach

The second edition explored the contingency approach as exemplary of classic scholarship in organization and management theory. Specifically, the historical context of the contingency approach, the main ideas of some authors and traditions associated with it, and their connections with contemporary research. It includes  presentations by Gino Cattani on James D. Thompson; Sarah Kaplan on Joan Woodward; and Signe Vikkelso on Tavistock and Socio-Technical Systems.
