My research agenda centers on the study of bureaucratic and formal organizational structures. This translates into an attention for formalization, organizational structure, authority relations, etc. I am particularly interested in exploring how bureaucratic/formal elements shape (knowledge) work and organizational processes. This reflects a (neo) classical attention to formal organization merged with a practice-based sensitivity.
This research programme emerged from my doctoral research and I am currently planning future studies which may help us understand the nature of bureaucracy in contemporary corporations and its implications for collaboration, innovation and effective operations. I hope this may enable us to leverage the benefits of bureaucracy (which are usually overlooked) while preventing its shortcomings.
